Nazeer Husain
Late in the month of June 2007, Shahdad Kot district was devastated by floods caused by cyclone Yemyin. Several poor families and farmers lost their livestock and crop to the floods. Due to the loss, they began migrating into cities in search of jobs.
Hidaya immediately responded with its One Million meals and container shipment (clothes distribution, tent distribution) projects to those affected by the floods. In November 2007, Hidaya also initiated its Farmer Assistance project for the farmers affected by the floods. Hidaya’s objective was to help rebuild and stabilize the lives of the poor farmers and their families by providing them with seeds to grow and harvest wheat.
23 year old Nazeer Hussain is a married farmer with four family members. He is a resident of village Mirpur Buriro, Shahdad Kot district, which is 56 kilometers from the city of Shahdad Kot.
Nazeer Husain received four fifty kilogram bags of wheat seeds from Hidaya at no cost for the four acres of land he cultivates. The land produced 100 mounds (4,000 kgs or 8,800lbs) of wheat crop which amounts to approximately 70,000 rupees.
He was very delighted and was praying for Hidaya’s team for their work. He also said that there was enough wheat for his family to survive and for planting in the next season.
