In July 2007, Cyclone Yemyin's destructive path devastated farmers in Pakistan, wiping out their crops, destroying their homes, and severely impacting their livelihood.  Hidaya Foundation (www.hidaya.org) acted immediately with relief efforts in Kharan, Balochistan, and Shahdadkot Sindh through a variety of programs and efforts, including Farmer Assistance Project.

Under the Farmer Assistance Project, Hidaya has set aggressive goals to help those poor farmers who cannot afford to buy seed, fertilizers and pesticides to restart the long journey to get back on their feet.  In November 2007, to help these poor farmers affected by the devastating effects of Yemyin, Hidaya distributed 5,000 bags of wheat seeds to 1,250 farmers, enough to plant 5,000 acres of land.  Hidaya's team monitored, documented and photographed the progress in the fields on a monthly basis to ensure that the crops reach to harvesting stage in April of 2008.

The harvest results from the 250 metric tons of seed donated by Hidaya produced about 7,500 metric tons (30 times as much) of wheat, a prime example of how your zakat donations saved thousands of families from hardships and helped put them on the path to financial recovery.
