May 5, 2008

As Salaamu Alaikum (May Peace Be Upon You),

On Sunday May 4, Cyclone Nargis struck Myanmar (formerly known as Burma) with wind speeds of up to 120mph.  The Ayeyarwady Delta Area, mostly populated by poor rice farmers, was the most severely hit zone as Nargis brought a surge of water 12 ft. high over the land from sea.  Millions have lost their homes and much of the country's rice crop has been destroyed.  As of Tuesday May 6, over 22,000 people have been reported dead with the death toll expected to rise dramatically as over 41,000 people still remain missing.

Currently, Hidaya Foundation (www.hidaya.org) is in a process of identifying and qualifying organizations on the ground to partner with for relief operations.  Please donate to help those millions affected by this terrible natural disaster.
