Giving Clean Drinking Water as Sadaqah Jariah on Behalf of the Deceased

Sa'd ibn Ubadah asked the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), "Umm Sa'd (his mother) has died; what form of Sadaqah (charity) is best?"  He (pbuh) replied: "Water (is best)."  Sa'd dug a well and said: "It is for Umm Sa'd." (Abu-Dawood #1677)

Hidaya Foundation (www.hidaya.org), under its Clean Drinking Water Project, installs water hand pumps in poor villages. The average cost of installing a hand pump along with maintenance of the pump for 5 years is $200.     

 
Providing a water hand pump is a form of Sadaqah Jariah (continuous charity) as it provides benefit to all of creation for years to come.  You can donate on behalf of yourself, your family or loved ones who have passed away.
