As Salaamu Alaikum (Peace Be Upon You),

A year ago today, on October 8th, 2005, northern areas of Pakistan were devastated by an earthquake, which impacted 3.5 million people by conservative estimates.  All around the globe, kindhearted donors like you responded with support for the earthquake survivors.  Today, even though a year has gone by, according to some reports, very low percentage of the survivors have succeeded in re-building their homes to allow them to go back to normal living.  Still there are approximately 1.8 million people without permanent shelter; thousands of families still can not afford to put food in front of their children; uncountable children are not going to schools for lack of funds to buy clothes, books and supplies; they all need your help.

As a part of our continued commitment to help those poor and needy, who were negatively affected by the earthquake, Hidaya Foundation is continuing to distribute supplies such as tents, blankets, jackets, sleeping bags, etc..  In addition Hidaya is helping them in three ways:

1) Providing food packages to the needy surviving families in the earthquake areas.  The cost of feeding a family of four for 2 weeks is $20.00

2) Providing financial support to students in the earthquake affected areas. Nominal $25 a month can pay for the educational expenses of a child. You can sponsor a child's education for 3 months, 6 months or a year. Again, no amount is too small - any amount is welcome.

3) Provide financial support to orphans and windows till they are able to get on their own feet.

Hidaya Foundation was awarded Sitara-i-Eisaar (Star of Sacrifice) by the Government of Pakistan, in recognition of the results-oriented relief efforts during the 2005 earthquake in Pakistan, during a special ceremony held at the Embassy of Pakistan in Washington, DC, on September 21, 2006.
